*** Etymology
Probably a shortened form of [en], itself from [en], thus making the term a [en].[1] Alternatively, a [en],[2] presumably in an allusion to "making it rain". The fact that usage of _fetti_ appears to be centred around California,<ref name="RR"/> where [en] is also commonly used, makes a derivation from Spanish more plausible.
