Sloe \Sloe\ (sl[=o]), n. [OE. slo, AS. sl[=a]; akin to D. slee, G. schlehe, OHG. sl[=e]ha, Dan. slaaen, Sw. sl[*a]n, perhaps originally, that which blunts the teeth, or sets them on edge (cf.
